SOFEX 2008 is gearing up to be the largest Special Operations and
Homeland Security Exhibition and Conference to date in the Middle
East and North Africa Region, welcoming a record number of 10,000
visitors including the largest number of international defense
manufacturers the event has ever seen in its 13 year history, with
over 300 exhibitors from 60 countries in addition to more than 300
official military and governmental representatives from 55 countries

its previous edition and surpass the records set in 2006
in terms of exhibitors, visitors, military

Mr. Tabbah went on to say, “The exhibition
site has been expanded to over 70,000 m² of indoor and outdoor space
to accommodate the increased number of participants, as well as to
enable exhibitors to perform a greater number of live demonstrations
and mobility displays. This year we are also expecting some
truly amazing demonstrations of the capabilities that are now
available in the field of Special Operations and Homeland Security.
In some cases it will be the first time this equipment has been
demonstrated anywhere in public
Further demonstrating the value and importance acquired by SOFEX,
due its exclusive focus on special operations forces and homeland
security, many of the international exhibitors have significantly
increased space requirements for their national pavilions. Turkey
will have a significant presence this year, having increased its
participation by around 900%, whilst US exhibitors have again
increased their participation, with a 50% increase on their
participation at SOFEX 2006. Germany has also announced that it will
be doubling its pavilion space, with China expected to increase its
representation by approximately five fold and Jordan’s participation
increasing by a remarkable 300%
SOFEX 2008 will also be introducing several first time participants,
which will include Greece, Finland, Korea and Slovakia, whilst Italy
will have a presence as a country pavilion for the first time
The extensive exhibition, which will take place on April 1st-April
3rd, will showcase the most up-to-date special operations
equipment and technology, designed to provide Jordanian, regional
and international companies with the opportunity to participate and
display their know-how and state-of-the-art technologies, tactics
and equipment to their key target audiences. Delegations will also
have the opportunity to update themselves with the latest defense
and homeland security technologies
Preceding the exhibition is a conference that will be held on March
31st at Le Royal Hotel in Amman, organized by Defense
News and INEGMA who have worked alongside the Jordanian Special
Operations Command and SOFEX to identify and invite top-level
military speakers for this VIP conference
The SOFEX 2008 “Middle East Special Operations Commanders
Conference” will attract 500 high ranking decision makers from the

Sofex 2006 Reinforces position as the premiere Special Operations
Forces and Counter Terrorism event in the World
Amman, 26th December, 2005 – Sofex 2006, The Special
Operations Forces Exhibition & Conference, invited the Military and
Defence Attachés from a number of regional and foreign embassies in
Jordan to attend a special presentation about the upcoming addition
to Sofex series of events, which will be held at the King Abdullah
Airbase in Marka, on March 27th-30th 2006.
The presentation took place at the Officer's Club at the Marka
Airbase, in the presence of his Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al
Hussein, Chairman of the Sofex board of directors, and 15 Military &
Defence Attachés who are stationed at embassies in Jordan.
Mr. Amer Tabbah, Managing Director of Sofex 2006, delivered a
presentation highlighting the wide range of counter terrorism and
homeland security equipment that will be on display at Sofex, as
well as providing details on the upgrades that have been implemented
at the Sofex site, including new exhibitions halls, expanded
mobility demonstration areas and a new media and press centre for
the over 250 media representatives who are expected to attend. At
the end of the presentation, the Defence Attachés were taken on a
tour of the Sofex site where they were able to view the location
first hand.
Sofex is a bi-annual event that is held in Jordan under the Royal
Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Al- Hussein. The Sofex
event is considered the premiere event of its kind, being the only
specialised exhibition in the world that focuses exclusively on
Special Operations Forces, Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism
issues.
Sofex 2006 will be held on three consecutive days kicking off with
the Conference on March 27th followed by the Exhibition, where over
300 of the world’s leading defence and security manufacturers have
confirmed their participation and will be displaying the latest
developments in the defence and homeland security arena.
Manufacturers from over 40 countries will be participating including
the leading companies from the United Sates of America, Britain,
France, Australia, Russia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates
and many more.
The Conference will consist of speeches from global experts on
counter terrorism and homeland security along with a number of
workshops on methods to reinforce security and promote regional and
international peace. The primary role of the conference is to bring
together professionals and experts from around the world to analyze
the rapidly changing defence environment and discuss issues relevant

12th December 2005, Amman – Mr Amer Tabbah, Managing Director
of Sofex 2006, has announced that a record number of participants
are expected to attend the 6th in the series of Special Operations
Forces Exhibitions and Conferences taking place at the Marka Airbase
near Amman in March 2006. Following on from a number of promotional
tours in the UK, Turkey, Poland and UAE, Sofex are expecting their
largest number of participants in next year's exhibition with over
42 countries expected to be present from all over the world.
Building on the enormous success achieved at Sofex 2004, and as part
of the preparations for the upcoming Sofex exhibition, the Sofex
team have been conducting promotional activities and attending
military and defense exhibitions around the world since the
beginning of the year. Their presence at these exhibitions is aimed
at networking with defense manufacturers and buyers in order to
increase awareness of Sofex 2006 and demonstrate the numerous
benefits available at the world’s leading Special Operations Forces
exhibition.
The Sofex team began their promotional tour by attending the
International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO held in Kielce,
Poland at the end of August 2005. The following month they attended
the Defense Systems Equipment International Exhibition (DSEi) 2005,
which was held at Excel, London. At DSEi, Sofex joined partner
companies of the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau at
the Jordanian National Pavilion, where they met with leading
manufacturers of defence technology and key decision makers from the
defence and Special Operations Forces industry, with whom they
discussed their participation at Sofex 2006.
Following on from DSEi, the Sofex 2006 team traveled on to the
International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) which was held by the
Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, under the auspices of the Ministry
of Defence in the Turkish capital Ankara. The Sofex 2006 team
utilized their participation in the exhibition to further promote
the exhibition and to invite high ranking military and political
delegations to attend and participate in Sofex 2006.
The most recent exhibitions the Sofex team attended were Security &
Safety Middle East 2005 held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai 2005
-International Aerospace Exhibition held in Dubai. Both took place
last November in U.A.E.
Mr. Tabbaa, expressed his excitement and confidence that Sofex 2006
will be the most successful event in the series after having met
with key manufacturers, defense buyers and media representatives at
these international military and defense exhibitions.
“All the feedback we have been receiving has been positive, with
delegates and manufacturers from all over the world expressing their

Sofex and IDEX Set the trend
1st December, 2005, Amman - HRH Lt General Prince Feisal Ibn
Al Hussein, Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff of the Royal Jordanian Armed Forces (RJAF) and Chairman of the
Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (Sofex), visited
the shared stand of Sofex and IDEX, the International Defense
Exhibition and Conference, at the 2005 Dubai Air show praising and
reasserting the importance of the increased collaboration between
the two nations and the organizers of both events.
In a meeting between Prince Feisal and the Abu Dhabi National
Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), the official organizers of IDEX, Prince
Feisal stressed the vital role the exhibition industry plays in
enhancing the economic growth of both countries by attracting
international visitors and providing an opportunity to brand,
promote and position each country as high value international
business and events destinations. HRH Prince Feisal went on to say
that “To ensure the success of both events and ongoing development
in the regional and international defense exhibition sector,
cooperation is crucial between Jordan and the UAE and is symbolic of
the mutual respect our countries have for each other."
Sofex, which on this occasion will take place March 27th-30th of

The Sofex 2006 team will be attending DSEi 2005, to be held at
Excel, London from the 13th – 16th September 2005. Sofex will join
partner companies of the King Abdullah II Design and Development
Bureau in the new Jordanian National Pavilion, at Stand Number 1605.
Existing and new exhibitors at Sofex 2006 are invited to meet the
Sofex team who will be happy to discuss their participation in the
exhibition.
Sofex 2006, the sixth Special Operations Forces Exhibition and
Conference will be held in Amman, Jordan, between the 27th and the
30th of March 2006.
Sofex opens on the 27th March 2006 with a one day Conference
comprising a comprehensive seminar programme pertinent to special
operations and global security issues of the day.
The exhibition opens on the 28th March 2006 and is supported by a
wide range of tactical, live-firing and vehicle mobility displays.
Several new innovations will appear at Sofex 2006 to ensure an
action-packed series of events. These will include the provision of
simulated live firing ranges, small-arms live firing competitions
and ground manoeuvre demonstrations.
At the March 2006 exhibition, 300 exhibiting companies and
organisations are expected, a 35% increase from the 227 exhibitors
from 34 countries who participated in the 2004 event, which in turn
had grown by 35% from the 2002 exhibition. The indoor and outdoor
exhibits are a showcase of the most up-to-date special operations
and counter terrorism equipment and technology.
The organisers are undertaking an ambitious plan to refurbish the Sofex site, incorporating the renovation of the existing five
chalets and the construction of five further state-of-the art double
storey chalets. The newly constructed mobility demonstration area
will be overhauled and upgraded, and the exhibition halls will be
fitted with the latest communications and visual aids. A further
hall will be constructed to include a new Press and Media Suite.
This will comprise a 70-seater theatre-style press briefing room
with full audio-visual services, a fully equipped press room,
business centre, two conference rooms, a VIP suite, Sponsors’ suite
and gallery to view the exhibition below. |
